In life I notice systems put in place that benefit some but restrict others. Whenever these systems arise there are always those that break through it and change it. That is what I designed this piece to embody; the paint brush flowing through the chaos and spreading color and light.
I often make my pieces by starting with one idea and then molding it into something completely different. This piece was originally going to be a si-fi looking vase but instead I created this tree. For this piece I added details around the hole thing to make it have more depth. I have creatures peaking out of holes and crawling out of the bark of the tree, and of the door in the front. This was definetly one of the more fun pieces that I constructed.
I have always been fasinated with the look and purpose of sun dials. The shadows that they cast when light hits them, the fragil look and most of all the symbols. I used latin symbols from an album I am perticularly fond of, Clockwork Angles by Rush, and placed tham around the circle. I had no specific plan for the dial itself but, I did want it to have an earth green color to look like it once was in a garden that tarnished its original color.
Sometimes pieces are just happy accidents and thats what this piece ended up being! I was experimenting on the wheen and ended up with this mushroom shaped piece. Since it looked like it already look like a mushroom I painted it as such but with my own spin.
This was my very first piece I ever made. For this piece I wanted to experiment with how I could make clay more naturalistic. This piece has no particular meaning however it is still one of my favorites that I have made.
This piece was inspired by an artist I saw at a local art show. He had little figures that had cone bodies and circle heads with small expresions. From that I made this hooded figure. I plan to make a series of them in the future.
I was inspired by a movie called Pans Labyrinth for this piece. In the movie there is a monster who can only see because there is and eye on each hand. The monster is also a creature of pure evil. So, this piece is a hand that is pure coming out of a dark pool reaching for help. However, since it was in the dark pool, it now had the darkness as apart of it.
This aquatic man was created to show how very human features can be transformed into something else. I turned ears into gils, eyes into pearls and so on. I used a dry brushing techneque so that he could have an aquatic and powdery feel.
During this time, I was very upset about current politics. The events reminded me of the sixties when the government and the people where so divide. One specific picture came to mind of a young woman putting a flower into the barrel of a soldiers gun. So I created this piece which was inspired by that photo, just with a modern twist. The flower represents peace and friendship. However, it has lost a pedal, representing the decay of that idea in current times.
I really wanted to show isolation yet tranquility and the journey it takes people. I also really wanted to see how much detail I could do for a piece this small. I also experimented different glazes.
For this piece I wanted to show the relationship between death and time, and how people have so much fear around both. I made the raven made of clay, which is an organic material, and metal, inorganic, to show how both can be apart of the same piece.
In this piece, I was frustrated with societies tendency to try to tear people down if they do not fit into a certain mold. Th lotus in the palm of the center arm represents growth and rising above. Lotuses growth from mud, and I wanted the same relationship to be in this piece. The other arms are those who are trying to pull the other one down.
